Bradford Child

Clarinet, tenor saxophone, vocals

Writes for the band as well as playing in it: the album opens with his tune.

Bradford Child, billed around Sydney as Brad Child, has been a fixture of the city’s jazz scene for more than thirty years. His tenor comes from the Texas line of Herschel Evans, Arnett Cobb and Buddy Tate: broad, warm and swinging hard, with real tenderness on a ballad. He led the Brad Child Orchestra through a nine-year Monday-night residency at Soup Plus, fronts his own quintet, and has played Wangaratta, Manly and Bellingen festivals and Sydney’s Basement. In SwingRocket he doubles on clarinet, sings, and wrote the album’s opener, “The Bradford Bounce”.
