SwingRocket

The band

SwingRocket plays classic swing, hot jazz and R&B as if the tunes were written last week. Bradford Child’s clarinet and tenor saxophone sit beside Dan Barnett’s trombone in the front line, while Stephen Grant, Mark Elton and Anthony Howe drive from the piano, double bass and drums. Four of the five sing, so a set can move from a crooned ballad to a shouted chorus without anyone leaving the stage. The same five took the band to JazzAscona in 2017 and 2024 and to the Bülacher Jazztage in 2017, 2023 and 2025. Their album, Coz Rockets Are Cool, was tracked in Glebe, Sydney, and engineered, mixed and mastered by Stephen. The rocket is a running joke that stuck: they call themselves the first jazz band in space.
